Flapper in TRSSSV
EV was called to carry out a downhole video inspection to investigate why the client could not get down the well during a routine intervention, there was clearly a hold-up at just below 8,000ft. Whilst mobilising for the job, the client advised EV that it was going to be a 2 well campaign as they had a failed TRSSSV where the flapper was potentially damaged.

Flapper in TRSSSV

It is the flapper that we feature in this month's video. In order to account for potential variables in the wellbore conditions, several passes were made of the area of interest at varying flushing rates up to 2 bbl/min. The footage showed that the flapper within the TRSSSV was never fully closed and when attempts were made to open it, the flow tube could be seen to slide but the flapper itself did not open or close fully.

Video clips were sent onshore for further evaluation and with a happy customer both offshore and onshore the subsequent operation could be carried out in the second problem well. This showed some parted and damaged casing. With information on both issues, the client could move forward in confidence with a plan for remedial action to bring both wells back online with a saving of many lost days and many $$$$s.
